Group Head of Law & Governance (Monitoring Officer)
Candidate information

Thank you for expressing an interest in this role, in which the successful candidate will operate alongside me at the most senior level within the Council.

Working closely with the Leader of the Council and Group Leaders, you’ll ensure that Members and officers are provided with timely and accurate advice so that we can maintain the highest standards of governance. There’s been a significant amount of change in Arun DC since the May 2019 elections, and this year’s shift to online Council meetings has added another level of complexity to the way our elected members engage, scrutinise and decide on key items of Council business. We’ve responded with admirable flexibility and innovation, but we know that there will always be new questions to address. That’s where you will come in.

I’m looking for an unusual combination of detailed legal and governance knowledge, together with the interpersonal skills to forge strong relationships of trust and credibility, underpinning a reputation for clarity and objectivity. You’ll demonstrate your profound belief in the democratic process, and help us all work together as the most effective Council we can be.

The past year has been a challenge for every part of the UK, but we believe we’re well-placed to make the most of the post-vaccine recovery, and we look forward to welcoming you to our team.

Yours sincerely,

Nigel Lynn

Chief Executive, Arun District Council

Arun is a marvellous place to live and work, with the stunning coast framed by the breathtaking downs rising to the north of the district. Arundel’s magnificent castle, noble cathedral and quirky modern market town is perhaps our most photographed urban centre, but we also have a wealth of quiet villages and busy, thriving seaside towns including Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.
